If We Walk in the Light As He Is In the Light

This meditation is based on a passage for May 2, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: 1 John 1:1-10

Reflection and Question: John begins by declaring that his joy is made complete in the loving fellowship he has with this small group of believers. To capture the way in which Christians live within the love of God and Christ, John expands on the image of light for God. For John, Christ walks in the light of God so that we also walk together in that light when we walk with Jesus. I know so many faithful lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Presbyterians who testify to their joy at walking with Christ in God’s light. Their witness gives me joy just as John’s listeners enjoyed his words. In what fellowship do you walk in God’s light?

Prayer: Blessed Jesus, we are so grateful that this letter from John, meant for Christians so long ago, speaks plainly to us now of Your Grace and our joy. Forgive us our sins, we humbly pray. May we abide lovingly with one another in Your light. Amen.
